Punta Aderci, my love

The Natural Reserve of Punta Aderci is one of my favorite places in the whole world.

The reserve, an easy 9km drive or bike ride from central Vasto, extends for about 285 hectares from the beach of Punta Penna to the mouth of the Sinello river.

It features some of the most gorgeous natural beaches in Italy, with crystal clear waters and natural cliffs. Lovers of nature will also appreciate the rich vegetation and the opportunity to observe many species of birds.

The rocky promontory of Punta Aderci offers a spectacular view across the Abruzzo coast. On a clear day, you can also admire the profiles of Abruzzo’s great mountain tops, Majella and Grand Sasso, in the winter and early spring still covered in snow.

This view from Punta Aderci gives you a concrete explanation as to why Abruzzo is called the region of “mare e monti”, sea and mountains.

If you like cycling, as I do, there is a mountain bike path that runs along the coastline at 20m above sea level. This video gives you an idea. Alternatively, you can visit the reserve by foot, leaving your car in the parking lot at the park’s entrance.

In the summer season you can spend entire days on the pebbled beaches, just remember to bring everything that you need as there is no commercial activity in the natural reserve.

Libertini, Anita & Umberto’s favorite beach, in the springtime.

I love this place all year around, in all kinds of weather. In a certain way it’s become almost a spiritual place for me, I always feel more serene and creative after a visit.
